By strategy I mean the “big picture goals”, the company vision and/or mission, desired outcomes set by a CEO or founder. As a consultant or product manager you might give information to a person in that role, but you don’t set it yourself.
This kind of “big picture goal” is important to work towards and it has to inform the product vision and everything down the line.
Where I feel project and product tend to differ often (not always) is the focus on budget/deadlines and planning ahead vs the focus on customer value and flexibility. That’s just my personal experience though and I am sure there are great project managers out there, but I am certainly a product manager. ;)
